Faculty in research hubs gather for meeting

Shaping the Future of Discovery at UVA, Together

Ninety proposals. Fifteen hubs. One guiding premise: the biggest questions don’t get solved alone. Selected through a competitive University-wide process, UVA’s 15 inaugural Research Hubs span a remarkable range, from hypersonic technologies and quantum photonics to aging, health policy, AI and supply chains, capturing both the breadth of UVA’s expertise and its commitment to cross-disciplinary team science.

Open to faculty at all career stages, the Hubs are designed to be dynamic and inclusive. Through ongoing collaboration, they will generate white papers, scholarly publications, relationships with federal agencies, industry partners, and philanthropic organizations, building the track record that makes UVA competitive for major funding opportunities

Cross-school collaboration isn’t a feature of the Research Hubs model; it’s the point. Faculty from Engineering, Medicine, Arts & Sciences, Education, Nursing, Architecture, Commerce, the Batten School, and Darden and Law work side by side, bringing the full weight of UVA’s institutional range to bear on the problems that matter most. The Health Policy Research Hub exemplifies this model by bringing together policy experts from the Batten School and School of Law with researchers and clinicians from the Schools of Nursing and Medicine, creating an interdisciplinary community to advance evidence-based research and facilitate meaningful engagement with policymakers.

This first cohort is a starting point. We expect the model to keep evolving as new ideas emerge and new opportunities for collaboration take shape.
