Transcript of video:

Hi, I’m Sarah Flowers. I’m an assistant professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia, and I’ll be talking at the library downtown and in Crozet in September. I love being able to speak to our local community, because it’s really you who I’m working to helping. And by speaking with you, I’m able to really understand how I can help you the best.

Yeah, so my lab’s focused on neurodegenerative diseases and Alzheimer’s disease in particular, and we’re working towards making Alzheimer’s a preventable disease. And to do that, we’re focused on how we can detect somebody very early before they’re even getting pathology in the brain, before they have memory loss, and how can we treat them at that point so that we stop the progression to Alzheimer’s disease.

I hope that you see that there’s some hope out there, that we’re really working hard to really defeat this disease, and that we can work together to achieve that.
