Mark Conaway, PhD and Gina Petroni, PhD, Earn Nearly $2 Million to Develop Novel Statistical Methods for ELISpot Experiments

Mark Conaway, PhD, professor of in the Department of Public Health Sciences, and UVA Researchers have been awarded a four-year, $1.95 million NIH R01 grant to investigate two significant clinical questions: 1) how should ELISpot assay data be used in early phase clinical trials to identify potentially effective therapies and 2) can ELISpot assay data predict longer term clinical benefit.

Jamie Zoellner, PhD, Leads Study Testing Program to Reduce Families’ Sugary Drink Consumption

University of Virginia researchers are piloting weSIPsmarter, a digital program aimed at reducing sugary drink consumption among rural families in Appalachia and the South. Funded by a $669,251 National Cancer Institute grant, the initiative targets Head Start families across five states, focusing on parents and children ages 2–5, who face elevated health risks including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes linked to high sugary drink intake.
