Multidisciplinary Clinic Faculty Spotlight: Alissa Higinbotham, MD, Streamlines Care for Patients With Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

At the clinic, Dr. Higinbotham works closely with Michael Catalino, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, and Aubrey Courville, DPT, clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy, to “streamline the evaluation process and reduce the diagnostic odyssey” associated with iNPH, a neurological disorder that occurs when fluid builds up in the brain, stretching neuronal networks.

When University of Virginia graduate student Caeley Reever came across the word “stellular” – “little star” in Latin – she and UVA anesthesiology professor Manoj Patel knew they had the perfect name for their startup company.

Stellula Therapeutics is centered around developing a gene therapy for a rare pediatric genetic epilepsy disorder, SCN8A developmental and epileptic encephalopathy.
